Book orders purchased online

Return Window

We accept returns of online book orders within seven (7) calendar days of delivery confirmation. Requests received after this period will not be accepted, and all sales are considered final.

Condition of Returned Books

To be eligible for a refund, the book must be:

• In its original, unread condition
• Free of marks, creases, dog-eared pages, or other signs of handling
• Returned with all original packaging and protective materials

We reserve the right to refuse a refund or apply a restocking fee if the returned book shows signs of use, damage, or missing components.

How to Initiate a Return

Email memo@memobrasil.com within the return window with:

• Your full name and order number (found in the Stripe receipt)
• The reason for the return
• Photographs of the item if relevant (e.g. damage on arrival)

We will reply within two (2) business days with return instructions and the address to ship the item back to.

Return Shipping

The buyer is responsible for return shipping costs, unless the return is due to our error (wrong item shipped, manufacturing defect, or damage in our possession before dispatch).

We strongly recommend using a tracked and insured shipping service for the return. We are not responsible for items lost, damaged, or delayed during the return shipment. Refunds will only be processed once the item has been received and inspected by us.

Carrier Liability & Shipping Insurance

Once an order has been handed over to the postal service or courier, Mercado Moderno is not liable for delays, damage, or loss caused by the carrier. Shipping rates collected at checkout do not include third-party insurance.

If the item is damaged on arrival, please notify us at memo@memobrasil.com within forty-eight (48) hours of delivery, including photographs of the packaging and the damage. We will assist in filing a claim with the carrier where applicable, and offer a replacement or refund subject to inventory availability and the outcome of the claim.

Refund Processing

Once the returned item has been received and inspected, we will issue a refund to the original payment method via Stripe. Please allow five (5) to ten (10) business days for the refunded amount to appear on your statement, depending on your bank or card issuer.

Refunds cover the price of the item only. Original shipping costs are non-refundable, except when the return is due to our error.

Import Duties & Customs Fees

Any import duties, taxes, or customs fees paid to your country's customs authorities are not refundable by Mercado Moderno. These payments go directly to the destination country's government and are outside our control. We recommend contacting your local customs office for information on potential refund procedures.

Non-Returnable

The following are not eligible for return or refund under this policy:

• Collection pieces (furniture, lighting, objects, photography) — these are sold by inquiry only and follow terms agreed individually at the time of purchase
• Books not purchased through our online store at /books (e.g. acquired in person at the gallery or at fairs)
• Books returned after the 7-day window
• Books that have been read, marked, or are missing original packaging
• Original shipping costs (unless the return is due to our error)

Order Cancellations

Orders may be cancelled for a full refund only if the item has not yet been dispatched. Once an order is in transit, the standard return procedure above applies.

Governing Law

This policy is governed by the laws of the Federative Republic of Brazil. International purchases are additionally subject to any applicable consumer protection laws of the buyer's country of residence.
