Founded in Brazil, c.1951–1970s
Celina Decorações is a Brazilian furniture and interiors company based in Rio de Janeiro, with origins that trace back to the mid-20th century through the work of Celina Zylberberg.
Celina Zylberberg was a founding partner of the Boa Vista tapestry house, one of the most renowned textile industries in Rio de Janeiro for decades. Her involvement helped establish a strong foundation in textile production and craftsmanship that would later influence the family’s expansion into furniture and interiors.
In the early 1960s, her son Munis Zylberberg, responding to the growing demand for modern furniture, transformed the textile business into a network of furniture stores focused on jacarandá wood, rebranding it as Celina Móveis e Decorações. This shift marked the beginning of Celina’s role as a significant player in Brazilian modern interiors.
Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, Celina became known for combining high production standards with accessible modern design, often working in dialogue with leading figures of Brazilian modernism such as Sérgio Rodrigues and Oca. The brand expanded from individual furniture pieces to complete interior solutions, including residential and institutional projects, becoming a reference for jacarandá-based modern furniture in Brazil.
