Giuseppe Scapinelli

Giuseppe Scapinelli

Modena, Italia, 1891–1982

Giuseppe Scapinelli was born in Modena, Italy, where he was a professor of architecture. In 1950, already in São Paulo, his businesses included the Giesse Furniture Factory, the Santa Helena Carpet Factory and two stores, Le Rideau and Margutta, which was also his studio, where many European artists gathered. In the 1950s, Scapinelli wrote the column "Scapinelli responds" in Casa e Jardim magazine. In the design of his furniture, he maintained the most classic features with slender lines and toothpick feet. Casa e Jardim said in an article about the architect: "Scapinelli is a classic who remembers to be modern or - if you prefer - a modern who doesn't forget to be classic". In 1965, he disposed of his furniture business.
