Percival Lafer

São Paulo, Brazil, b. 1936

Percival Lafer is a pioneering Brazilian modernist furniture designer who transitioned from architecture to furniture design in 1961, founding Móveis Patentados. He is best known for his iconic MP-1 Armchair, combining a T-shaped steel base with a rosewood frame. Lafer's designs revolutionized Brazilian furniture by pairing minimalist hardwood structures with luxurious leather upholstery and innovative patented construction techniques, making him one of the most prolific Brazilian furniture designers of the 1960s through the 1980s.
